For those of us lucky enough to have health insurance, we depend upon our health plan directory to guide us to an in-network provider. But is this information enough to guide informed decisions? “Surgeon or Sturgeon” asks our audience to consider the following questions:
1. Does transparency of health information even matter, or is access to care, enough?
2. If transparency doesn’t matter, does it pose ethical or moral questions for health plans? Providers?
3. If transparency does matter, what information should we provide consumers?
The talk concludes with several recommendations for health plans to help their member find the right doctor, the right hospital and the right care.
